Forever in Travel

Take me away!

Direct flights from many Asian cities -we flew direct from Singapore with Air Asia – but go with Royal Brunei Airlines for a more comfortable experience.

Transfer by bus if you’re staying in
Bandar Seri Begawan (bus numbers 23, 24, 34, 38)

Taxis are the best option, but expensive.

It’s a year-round destination.  The first half of the year is a bit cooler.  November and December is good if you want to visit the Sutan’s Palace, which is open to visitors.

We visited in July – we had fine weather and got to see the Sultan’s birthday celebrations!

OK, the Empire is amazing.  But it’s far out, and will cost you a fortune in taxi fees (on top of the high room rates).  We recommend the Brunei Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan.  Close to the water village, close to the town centre, the main sights, restaurants etc.

Stay in Bandar Seri Begawan – honestly, the Empire is a great experience, but you want to be amongst it!

Use Dart to get around (no Uber or Grab here) – it can be cheaper than taxis (sometimes!)

Do a tour of the Kampung Ayer (the world’s largest floating village).  No need to book through a tour agency – just rock up to the water’s edge – you’ll soon be offered a tour by an enterprising local!

Make sure you do a tour of the pulsing wild artery of Brunei – the Temburong river – and try the Canopy walkway!  We booked our tour through Borneo Adventure.

If you desperately need to drink alcohol, certain restaurants (the Chinese ones, perhaps). will serve you beer….served in tea mugs to avoid suspicion!

Culture Trip has a great article about Kampung Ayer.

This blog is super detailed!

This is a great guide for doing Brunei on a budget!
